Sunday, April 24th

Lauren has been at Craig Hospital since Tuesday, April 19th. She is sleeping and eating well, her physical injuries and facial scars continue to heal well.  She is generally frustrated and confused at times, which is a common emotional stage of recovery for TBI patients. While there are no set expectations around recovery phases and timelines for TBIs in general, there are several common patterns that occur and that can be helpful for her support system and helping Lauren through her recovery process.

Lauren is very active, which is understandable given the fact that she was in peak fitness at the time of her crash. The doctors and physical therapists are limiting her to walking for now and exercising her legs is calming for her.

The doctors will run several tests this week (MRI, EEG, etc) and we’ll keep you updated.

Fox31 from Denver did a story on Lauren, you can read and watch it here.

Thanks to everyone for your continued support, Lauren’s GoFundMe continues to grow and it’s encouraging for her family and friends.  If you haven’t done so yet, please visit and donate, any small amount is sincerely appreciated!

  1. I was so sorry to hear about Lauren and my thoughts are with Her Family and Friends. Stay strong and stay positive !!

To give you a little reassurance, I was in the same place after a bad Cycling Crash. I was riding in a fast Peloton from Malibu to Santa Barbara, I went down head first at 25mph. To cut a long story short, I had multiple spinal fractures, broken hands, ribs and a serious Brain injury, 3 brain bleeds and concussion etc.

I also suffered short term memory and concentration loss, recovery isn’t linear, meaning you have good days and bad days, don’t look at progress day by day because it can get disheartening during the bad days, it’s better to look at progress week by week, or even better, month by month.

It took a while, but I’m completely recovered now, I have my memory back! Admittedly I do feel a little creaky on wet and cold days, I did a lot of spinal damage. But I just wanted to let you know that recovery is absolutely possible , given time, and yes, time is the best healer.

I wish Lauren a full and speedy recovery and of course Her Family and Friends all the strength and tenacity they need to help her through this !!

  2. Thanks Peter. For me and others like me who don’t know what a TBI is like, your insight is invaluable and reassuring. I’m glad that you recovered. Best wishes.

  3. I second Peter’s optimistic post. I’m 9 months into TBI recovery and while I’m not fully recovered, everything is coming along nicely. There are TBI forums on the internet where people make TBI sound like the end of the world. That’s certainly not been my experience.
